SUPPORTED INTERNSHIPS

SUPPORTED INTERNSHIPS

A Supported Internship is an education based offer for young people with SEND that provides a meaningful work placement in a real workplace. Students will study within college for 1-2 days per week and spend up to 4 days a week on their work placement. The aim of a Supported Internship is to help young people move successfully from education into paid employment.

As of academic year 2023/24, Oakfield College are delivering a Supported Internship for students in Year 14. We utilise accredited employment coaches from Wigan Council's Supporting Skills and Futures Team, who work with young people to find out their aspirations, match to a suitable work placement, complete any in-work support / training required, and remain in touch with employers and students through regular reviews.
