SPORTS PATHWAYS

The Sport Studies Pathway is a dynamic and practical programme designed for learners who are passionate about sport, fitness, and promoting healthy lifestyles. This pathway brings together four complementary qualifications—Physical Education, Health and Nutrition, Personal Training, and Sport Coaching—to provide a broad and balanced foundation for progression into higher education, apprenticeships, or employment within the sports and health industries. All qualifications are accredited by YMCA, ensuring industry relevance and high professional standards.

Physical Education

The Physical Education qualification develops learners’ understanding of how the body moves, performs, and responds to physical activity. Students explore anatomy and physiology, skill development, performance analysis, and the social impact of sport, while taking part in practical sporting activities that enhance teamwork, leadership, and communication skills.

Health and Nutrition

Health and Nutrition focuses on the role of diet, lifestyle, and wellbeing in supporting physical and mental health. Learners gain an understanding of nutrition, healthy eating habits, and the long-term impact of lifestyle choices, equipping them with knowledge that is essential across all areas of sport, fitness, and coaching.

Personal Training

The Personal Training qualification introduces learners to the fitness industry, covering exercise programming, training principles, client motivation, and safe gym practice. This element develops confidence, professionalism, and practical skills that are directly transferable to employment in fitness and leisure settings.

Sport Coaching

The Sport Coaching enables learners to plan, deliver, and evaluate coaching sessions for individuals and groups. Students learn how to adapt sessions for different ages and abilities while developing leadership, organisation, and communication skills.
