INDEPENDENT CAREERS ADVICE

The Aspiring Futures team is part of Wigan Councils’ Employment and Skills team who work with young people from the ages of 13-19 (or 25yrs if they have an EHCP), supporting them with moving into education, training or employment opportunities. The Careers Advisers within the team deliver information, advice and guidance to young people at key transition points to support them with their next steps around option choices, Post 16 options and Post 18/19 options.

Each young person at Oakfield High School and College will receive a 1:1 guidance appointment (with support of a TA if appropriate) from Year 9 through to Year 14 to discuss the young person’s ideas around what they would like to do in the future. From the interview an action plan is created and this forms part of the discussion during the annual reviews that take place with the young person in school. The Aspiring Futures team work with a wide range of Colleges, Training Providers, Employers, CIC’s alongside the Transition Social Workers and EHCP Co-ordinators and staff within School/College to ensure that all young people are supported to make a positive transition once they leave Oakfield.
