This morning one of our Year 8 learners spotted a hedgehog out and about on the school yard. They remembered Aspull Hedgehog's assembly from a few weeks ago and knew it shouldn't be out during the day. One of the learners and Mrs Kerr alerted Miss Wallwork, who found a box with some straw and a towel to put him in. He was given a shallow bowl of water and Miss Wallwork contacted Maz at Hog Haven, our local hedgehog rescue. He was dropped off a short time later and will have a full check up and extra care until he is fit enough to return to the wild. Hog Haven have nicknamed him Acorn and will keep us updated on his progress.
Remember if you see a 'hog out in the daytime it is not well. If you can put it in a sturdy box or carrier with a towel and some water and contact your local vet for details of the nearest rescue. NEVER give them milk, bread or meal worms. Water and kitten food (biscuits or packets) are best. ... See more
