CAREERS DAY

School held their first ever whole school and college ‘Careers Day’.  Learners got to experience a variety of industries that they could potentially pursue job prospects and career aspirations in for their future. Industries included catering, gardening, dentistry, the arts, media, motor mechanics, joinery and sport

We would like to thank Tom Cats Bikes, Fredericks Ice Cream, Inspiring Healthy Life Styles Wigan, Wigan Warriors Youth Team, Fix It, Skills CIC Orrell & Hindley, Green Crew CIC, My Life Standish, Excel in Life CIC, Steps CIC, Paul Maiden Arm Wrestling, My Dentist Leigh, Buzz Pods from Skils Orrell, Art Skills Hindley and personal trainer Oscar Ager for all taking their time out of their busy schedules to run workshops to showcase their respective industries and organisations.  We even demonstrated rebound therapy, the fisheries and had sensory circuits delivered by our own Mr Bradshaw, Mrs Cunliffe, & Mrs Lummis (Oakfield) and Mr Walker & Mrs Taylor (Landgate). Some sessions included a former student within their workshop to show how Oakfield Learners have achieved following transition from our school or college. This added extra inspiration to our existing students. Finally we would like to make a special mention to both Phillip Hunt from Marstons Brewery and Restaurants and Anthony Murray who runs his own Laminate Flooring Company called A.C.M Laminates. Both of these providers were completed by former students who have gone on to have a big impact and been successful in their respective industries.

Finally, Thank you for Mrs S Gough & Mrs L Wallwork for arranging such a well organised event. The students found the entire day a really worthwhile occasion to experience a variety of different working environments while developing key life skills and enhanced their educational knowledge while still having fun.
